Important Tattoo Aftercare Recommendations
Tattoo Healing Process: What to Expect
1. Oozing (1-2 days): In the first few days after the session, the tattoo may secrete a clear or slightly colored fluid called lymph. This is a natural healing process and there is no need to worry.
2. Crust formation (up to 4 days): A protective crust forms on the tattoo. It is very important not to pick, scratch, or injure it to avoid infection and scarring.
3. Peeling and healing (5-10 days): The crust will begin to dry and peel off, which may be accompanied by itching. It is important not to scratch the tattoo to avoid damaging the skin. At this stage, the skin is fully restored and healed.
Step-by-step instructions
Immediately after applying the design, a transparent antibacterial film is applied. It acts as a barrier to moisture and bacteria, but allows steam and gas to pass through. You can take a warm shower with this film, avoiding strong water pressure and rubbing with a washcloth.
The affected area swells, burns, and hurts in the first 2-3 days — this is normal. During this period, exclude alcohol and sports: Alcohol thins the blood, and sweat can cause inflammation, slowing down healing.
On the 3rd day after the session, remove the film and start washing the tattoo with warm water and antibacterial soap, gently blotting it with a paper towel (3 times a day for 2 weeks).
After each wash, apply a healing ointment with dexpanthenol («Bepanthen», «Pantestin», and similar preparations) to the skin.
On the 4-5th day, the wound begins to itch a lot — this is the formation of connective tissue. To relieve symptoms, you can apply cold for 10 minutes.
Eat foods rich in vitamin E (spinach, nuts, avocado, shrimp, broccoli, tomatoes, vegetable oils) and drink more water to maintain the brightness of the tattoo.
Complete healing usually takes 1 month, but the time may vary depending on individual characteristics of the body.
Restrictions during healing:By following these recommendations, you will ensure a quick and successful healing of your new tattoo, preserving its brightness and beauty for years to come.
- In the first 3-4 weeks, avoid direct sunlight and tanning beds to prevent tattoo fading. After healing, use sunscreen with SPF 30+.
- Avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, saunas, and steam rooms for a month after getting a tattoo to avoid damaging the pigment and prevent infection.
- Loose clothing: Wear clean, loose clothing made from natural fabrics to avoid friction and irritation of the tattoo.
- Avoid intense workouts: Refrain from intense physical activity until the tattoo is fully healed to prevent irritation and skin damage. This is especially true for large tattoos or tattoos located near joints.
